Twitter is working on 'Content Control Tools' - a way for third party tools to enhance the experience of users within the app. Jane Manchun Wong, a reverse engineer, has revealed that the tool could allow users to 'pick their own 'algorithm' Twitter's algorithm, rather than just the Home Timeline algorithm. This could allow third-party tools to provide custom timelines. The process would seemingly enable non-Twitter platforms to build additional algorithms, in variance to Twitter’s own, which would then enable new ways to experience the latest tweets. Elon Musk has taken to criticizing the current algorithm sorting, which he claims is manipulating the user experience. Twitter has been exploring similar for some time through its ‘Bluesky’ initiative. This is a potentially big deal for creators as it means that they could have more control over how their content is shown and experienced. It also opens up the possibility for other companies to build similar tools, which could provide a different way of viewing tweets from other platforms.
